SPC flooring breakdown
Each plank of SPC flooring is actually composed of multiple layers, which when stacked on top of each other serve to create one of the best flooring solutions on the market.
1. Wear Layer
This is the outermost layer of the SPC flooring plank, this layer is entirely transparent but serves a purpose. It provides a high level of resistance to scratches and stains, so if you spill something while cooking, or knock over your coffee, it’s not the end of the world. It’s easy to clean and incredibly low maintenance, which is why it’s so well suited towards use in the kitchen.
2. Vinyl Layer
This is the second layer, and this layer is responsible for providing the ‘look’ or ‘style’ of the plank. There’s a wide range of colours, patterns, and textures that are available, so no matter what you can get a plank that’s right for your tastes.
3. SPC Layer
This is the ‘core’ of the plank, and the reason why SPC flooring has its name. This layer is incredibly dense, waterproof, and is responsible for providing rigidity and stability for the plank.
4. Pre-Attached Underpad
This layer has a number of nifty properties that make installing SPC planks an absolute breeze. The layer is usually made out of IXPE or EVA foam, and provides sound insulation and cushioning. So whether you are walking in your socks or in your boots, the planks won’t rattle, and your feet will feel like they are on clouds.
